Pre-Diabetes

Learn the pre diabetes symptoms and find out how you can avoid diabetes.

If you've been told you have pre diabetes or if you think you may have pre diabetes symptoms you are one of the lucky few that can still prevent your diabetes. Here is a basic description of what’s happening in your body that causes pre diabetes symptoms and diabetes symptoms to begin to show up.

Diabetes diagnosis occurs when your blood glucose or blood sugar is too high.  This mean the amount of glucose in your blood is higher than normal.  Glucose in blood can be higher than normal because the pancreas is producing too little insulin or because of a resistance to insulin by your body or even a combination of both.

Your pancreas produces insulin.  Insulin production occurs in the Islets of Langerhans in the pancreas.  The hormone insulin is necessary for your cells to convert the glucose in blood to “food” for your body’s cells.  If not enough insulin is present, glucose or sugar will build up in the blood causing  what is know as hyperglycemia commonly called high blood sugar.  High blood sugar can be devastating on the body causing many problems and complications, some of which can be deadly.  That’s why if you have any of the pre diabetes symptoms listed below you’ll want to make sure to get your physician to do a measurement of your fasting blood sugar levels to determine if you have pre diabetes or diabetes.

ThThese symptoms of pre diabetes are the same as symptoms of diabetes.  If you are having any of these symptoms, be sure to get your physician to check your fasting blood sugar levels.

A a Diagnosis of pre diabetes means you can delay or even prevent the onset of diabetes.  Often all it takes is a change in diet, and an increase in activity.  If you are overweight, losing weight in many cases will eliminate pre diabetes

. Di  Diabetes is a very serious disease.  Left uncontrolled it can cause severe and even deadly complications.  Common complications of diabetes are kidney failure, blindness, amputations, and heart disease among others.  Take control of your diet and activity now to prevent problems of diabetes in the future.
